Privacy Policy
Learn more about UNHCR’s privacy policy.
UNHCR Canada strives to protect the privacy of the financial and personal information of its supporters at all times. We commit to taking every possible step to ensure that the information is safeguarded at every stage and is used only for the purposes designated by donors.
Collection of personal data
In order to process credit card transactions online it is necessary to collect some information. The name of the donor, the address of the donor, the payment type, the credit card number and expiration date, and the amount of the donation are required to process any transaction.
In addition, UNHCR Canada collects a telephone number and email address from those individuals in case we must contact donors because of an inaccurate name, credit card number or expiration date.
From time to time we mail information about the activities of our association to those who are interested in the worldwide refugee activities of UNHCR. We may also solicit for funds to support specific UNHCR programs in these mailings and through calling.
If at any time a donor wishes to have his or her name and personal information deleted from our records or if a donor would like to make changes to their personal information, including his or her name, address, phone number, email address, credit card information, etc., we comply as quickly as possible. To remove your name and address from our records or to make changes to your account please send an email to donorcare@unhcr.ca
Disclosure to third parties
UNHCR Canada will not sell, rent or trade a donor’s information with any organization, nor will we send mailings on behalf of other organizations.
Information security and quality
UNCHR Canada intends to protect the quality and integrity of our supporters’ personally identifiable information. We have implemented appropriate physical, technical and organizational measures, such as using industry-accepted encryption for transmission of credit card information, to help keep your information secure, accurate, current and complete.
Analytics, Advertising and Cookies
UNCHR Canada uses the Google Analytics website analytics tool on its website. This includes the use of Google Analytics Display Advertising features like remarketing and demographic and interest reporting. This tool allows UNHCR Canada to collect data on website visitors, including IP address and browser type, for the purpose of analyzing aggregate website usage. Display Advertising features also place an additional cookie, or small text file, on your browser, containing an anonymous identifier. This allows Google to provide aggregate reports on the demographics and interests of website visitors, and customize advertising on the Internet based on your browsing activity.
UNHCR Canada has additional third-party vendors like Meta that customize advertising on the Internet for you and others based on your browsing activity on the website. These vendors also use cookie technology. No personally identifying information, such as email address or credit card number, is ever passed by the website to Google or these third party vendors.
You may opt out of any of these services by clearing the cookies from your browser; disabling cookies entirely; opting out of Google interest-based ads; and/or to opt out of targeted ads from participating advertising networks including Meta.
Normal Website Usage
You can visit all portions of the UNHCR Canada’s web site without telling us who you are and without revealing any personal information. The only information we collect from a normal website visit is the name of your Internet service provider, the browser and type of machine you are using, the website that referred you to us, the pages you request and the date and time of those requests. This information is collected on an aggregate basis only. For example, UNHCR tracks which pages are most popular among visitors as a whole, but we do not track information on which pages an individual visitor might look at during a visit to our site.
We do not collect any other information—such as the name, mailing address, email address or phone number of the visitor—without the visitor’s knowledge and permission. All information that we collect is used for internal use only and is not shared with outside parties.
We most often use this information to generate statistics and measure site activity to improve the usefulness of the site to our visitors. This website also uses Google to collect aggregate behavioral data to advertise to previous visitors to our site. It could mean that we advertise to previous visitors who haven’t completed a task on our site, for example using the contact form to make an inquiry. Of course, any data collected will be used in accordance with our own privacy policy as well as our vendors’ privacy policies, which preclude the use of personally identifiable information.
Opting Out
Persons who provide an email address and/or donate via the website may receive updates, sent out a few times a month from UNHCR Canada. Each email includes an option to remove your address from the mailing list and you may also opt out by sending an e-mail to donorcare@unhcr.ca
