UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is pleased to announce the arrival of Tracey Maulfair, the new Representative in Canada. Ms. Maulfair brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her new role, having served in various key positions within UNHCR since 2001.
Ms. Maulfair’s extensive career with UNHCR includes roles such as Deputy Representative in Lebanon, Senior Policy and Guidance Coordinator in Geneva, Senior Policy Advisor in New York, and Assistant Representative in Pakistan. Her global experience also spans across Namibia, Liberia, and Türkiye, where she has made substantial contributions to the organization’s mission.
Prior to joining UNHCR, Ms. Maulfair practiced law in the United States and gained valuable experience with Human Rights Watch in Zimbabwe and the Center for Reproductive Rights in Kenya. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Pennsylvania State University and a Juris Doctor in International Human Rights Law from New York University.
“As I step into this role, I am inspired by the resilience and courage of refugees around the world,” said Ms. Maulfair. “Despite the growing challenges and shifting attitudes, Canada has a proud tradition of welcoming those in need. My goal is to reinforce our collaborative efforts with the government, civil society, and all Canadians to ensure that refugees receive the protection and support they deserve.”
Across the world, UNHCR is dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for people forced to flee their homes because of conflict and persecution. Since 1976, UNHCR has operated in Canada, working closely with governments, elected officials, municipalities, civil society, private sector partners, and individual Canadians to find solutions for refugees and the communities that support them.
As Representative, we are confident that Ms. Maulfair’s leadership and expertise will greatly benefit these efforts and further strengthen our commitment to protecting and assisting refugees and asylum-seekers.
In addition, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Rema Jamous Imseis for her outstanding service as the previous Representative in Canada. Ms. Jamous Imseis is now serving as the Regional Director of UNHCR’s Middle East and North Africa bureau, where we are certain she will continue to make a significant impact.
