UNHCR Canada partner NASIMCO (Organization of North American Shia Ithna-Asheri Muslim Communities) made a generous donation in support of UNHCR’s emergency assistance for Syrian refugees and internally displaced people in the Philippines.
Since its inception in 1980, NASIMCO has worked towards providing its North American member communities and followers of Shia faith in North America, a common structure and framework to meet the religious, cultural and social needs. NASIMCO, within its area of operation, encourages and promotes communities to help alleviate human suffering throughout the world. NASIMCO’s mission is to harness talents and resources available within its member communities for the greater good and global humanity.
Impact
NASIMCO’s support of UNHCR means that more displaced people, many of whom have travelled great distances to reach safety, will receive emergency assistance, shelter, medicine and help with urgent medical needs. In the winter months ahead, this assistance is critical, especially for refugees seeking safety in cold climates who will need survival kits with high thermal blankets, sleeping bags and heating supplies to protect them from the elements.
