UNHCR issues new guidance on international refugee protection for Haitians
GENEVA — Amidst the rapidly deteriorating security, human rights and humanitarian situation in Haiti, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has issued today new legal guidance to ensure that international refugee protection is provided for Haitians who need it.
UN and partners seek $852.4m to support Rohingya refugees and Bangladeshi hosts
GENEVA – UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, with other humanitarian partners, today called on the international community to redouble efforts to protect and assist Rohingya refugees and their host communities. Inclusion of noncommunicable disease care in response to humanitarian emergencies will help save more lives
GENEVA AND COPENHAGEN – Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease and diabetes, are responsible for 75 per cent of deaths worldwide. People affected by humanitarian emergencies are at increased risk of NCDs. It is estimated that strokes and heart attacks are up to three times more likely following a disaster. However, care and treatment for NCDs are often not included as a standard part of humanitarian emergency preparedness and response, which focus on the most immediate needs.

Refugees and migrants in Latin America and the Caribbean benefit local economies, new studies show

UN Refugee Agency expresses alarm over escalating humanitarian crisis in eastern DR Congo
GENEVA – UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is gravely concerned by the worsening humanitarian situation civilians face in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Intensifying violence and conflict are exacting a heavy toll on innocent civilians, hundreds of thousands of whom are attempting to seek safety on the peripheries of conflict zones.
