UN Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees Kelly T. Clements today appealed urgently for more support for countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, which host most of the 20 million forcibly displaced people in the Americas.

Sudan requires a huge response as needs mount and rains loom
As violence in Sudan continues for a fourth week, nearly 200,000 refugees and returnees have been forced to flee the country, with more crossing borders daily seeking safety. Additionally, hundreds of thousands have been internally displaced with many more confined to their homes, unable to access necessities.
The Americas at a crossroads: UNHCR and IOM call for a collaborative response to refugees and migrants
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) are calling for a collaborative approach to better respond to the mixed movement of refugees and migrants throughout the Americas. UNHCR and IOM welcome positive initiatives to expand resettlement and other regular pathways in the region, but are concerned about new restrictions on access to asylum following the long overdue lifting of the Title 42 public health order by the United States.
UNHCR warns of mounting needs in DR Congo as forced displacement continues
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is extremely concerned about the devastating consequences for displaced people of recurring attacks by armed groups in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and is calling for humanitarian efforts to be urgently supported. With 6.2 million internally displaced people (IDPs), and more than 1.3 million Congolese who have crossed to other countries in Africa to seek refuge, the situation in the DRC is one of the continent’s most complex and long-standing humanitarian crises.
UNHCR urges states to keep borders open to Sudanese, suspend negative asylum decisions
Concerned by the ongoing hostilities in Sudan, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has issued a new position on returns to the country. It advises that people fleeing the conflict in Sudan, as well as Sudanese nationals who are outside the country and cannot return because of the conflict, may be in need of international refugee protection under international and regional legal frameworks.
UNHCR: Sudan refugee response will need $445 million for rising numbers fleeing Sudan
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, said today that it is planning for an outflow of 860,000 refugees and returnees from Sudan and, with partners, will require US$445 million to support the displaced until October.
